About Altura Studio

Altura Studio

People say to me all the time: “You're so lucky. You get to go to weddings all the time." They're right. We are lucky. We get to be among people having a great time, looking and feeling their best and participating in what is often the most important day in someone's life.

Here’s the other thing we are lucky to see: the terrific style and creativity that our clients bring to their celebrations. If there is one thing we’ve learned while photographing weddings, it is that a wedding doesn’t have to be expensive to be lovely. We dedicate our blog to sharing the terrific ideas that we’ve seen before and will see this coming season, with a focus on ideas that are simple, elegant and stylish.

Every image in this blog is shot by us at events we've photographed. So, we say "thank you" to our clients who have shared their warmth and happiness with us.

mmmmmm, cupcakes!

We met Allison Kelleher on Sunday at event attended by some wedding industry folks. I tell you, there are two words I’m mesmerized by. One is “shoes” and the other is “cupcakes”. She introduced herself as “Cupcake Mama” and with that, she had my full attention.

I’ve had her yummies at a wedding and feel fully qualified to rave. If I was having a wedding or a party, I can see the advantage of having cupcakes instead of the big cake. Everyone can have the flavor (or color) they want, it’s a decent serving size (if you hold only one at a time, no-one can tell that you’ve already eaten 4 others….) and easier to serve and clean up.

Check out her website, or give her a ring at 503.287.7792

UPDATED: Alison & John, The Old Church in Sellwood

What a sweet and charming wedding this was. Alison and John married at dusk in the teeny tiny Old Church in Sellwood and then after celebrated with friends and family upstairs at Kell’s. Since Alison is an event planner herself, when it came time to consider her own wedding, she aimed for something small, simple and sweet. When they talked with us about what they were imagining photo-wise, the phrase “low key” came up a couple of times. What a refreshing change it was for us to be around such a relaxed and happy couple on wedding day.

My favorite photos from this day are the photos of Alison and John together alone, before their friends and family arrived. Besides being drop-dead gorgeous, Alison had the added beauty of being totally relaxed and completely in the moment with John.

Ann and Brad at The Viewpoint Inn

It’s so great when worlds collide and the circles in life overlap. One of the best things about photographing Ann and Brad’s beautiful wedding was that Ann is a friend of mine and we used to work at the same company. It was a delightful surprise to hear from her that we’d be the ones who would get to photograph her wedding to Brad in the late fall at The Viewpoint Inn.

Besides being an overall cool person, Ann is a talented designer. As is Brad. I assumed, rightly, that their wedding would be a gorgeous event. But what I hadn’t figured in advance, was that somehow Ann and Brad had managed to get the trees, the flowers and even the skies to coordinate themselves into this beautiful celebration.

Thanks, Ann and Brad for having us along on your day. John and I are crazy about the images. As I’m sitting at my computer, the palette is so lovely I want to lick the screen.

Today’s update is a link to a slideshow. And go here to see all the photos from the day.
