This week at MyPortlandPhotographer.com

Here’s our contribution to MyPortlandPhotographer this week. I loved everything about this wedding at Bridal Veil Lakes. And I didn’t mind that it rained and rained all day.

Heidi’s dress from The English Dept.

I didn’t learn until just now that Heidi’s lovely dress was a Jenny Yoo from The English Dept, where you’ll also find local designer Elizabeth Dye. We photographed Trevor and Heidi’s sweet summer wedding at Bridal Veil Lakes last summer. When Heidi described her dress, it certainly sounded lovely. But when she stepped out of her dressing room, we could see that it was something very special. Creamy, feminine, sophisticated and very, very beautiful.

If you’re looking at wedding gowns, check out Elizabeth Dye and her jewelbox of a shop. Also, you might look into her upcoming event. The following is from her website.

A Novel Romance: The English Dept. 2010 Bridal Fashion Show

The English Dept. is pleased to announce its 5th Annual Bridal Fashion Show. The show will be held on Sunday, January 31st at 12 pm at The Cleaners at the Ace Hotel. We will debut new collections by Jenny Yoo, Alix & Kelly, Coren Moore and others, as well as one of a kind dresses by Elizabeth Dye and unique accessories by local designers. This once-yearly event is packed with stylish wedding inspiration–we hope to see you there! RSVP info at theenglishdept or call the shop at 503.224.0724.

Color story: pink + tangerine + tropical

The phone is beginning to ring and I am getting the feeling that people are starting to think about weddings again. And if you’re planning a wedding here in Portland, you might take inspiration from this summer wedding at the Town Club. Tropical flowers and vibrant warm colors played a role in the gorgeous wedding flowers and decor in a way that was both simple and dramatic.

Adrian’s bridal bouquet included white, pink and and acid green orchids in a classic round shape with a colllar of sturdy dark green foliage. The groom’s bout’ was a single shapely orchid backed by glossy straps of foliage and beargrass. Check out the sweet floral headdresses on those oh-so-cute flowergirls. I’ll bet you can imagine how hard it was to keep those little dudes inside their mini madras sportcoats.

The table flowers were especially handsome. While I didn’t picture the huge (5 or 6 feet) vases towering with curly willow branches and long stems of white orchids, I thought the smaller, companion table flowers were worth noting. Simple, sculptural and dramatic, each square vase contained a spray of hot pink orchids with a ruff of tangerine dahlias all anchored with beach pebbles.

Because orchids are widely cultivated as cut flowers, and because the companion greens are always available, this would be a great look for any time of year in Oregon. However, in this instance, the orange dahlias suggest later summer, so this particular combination would be more of an August or September option. But let’s say you’re getting married in June or July. You could substitute salmon colored roses for the dahlias for a similar look.

You can always call us for ideas and inspiration for your Northwest wedding. Over the years we’ve worked with all the best florists, caterers, bakers and stylists in the area. Drop us a line anytime and we’re happy to share our opinions with you.

This week at MyPortlandPhotographer

I’ve been working on Emily and Nick’s album this week, and it’s given me the chance to revisit all their gorgeous wedding pics. I know, maybe I’m biased, but what a incredible day it was! Here’s our post on MyPortlandPhotographer this week. If you’re planning a wedding at Portland Art Museum, you might want to check out all the images from Nick and Emily’s wonderful fall wedding in Portland.

Mollie & Ryan’s album ships today

If you’ve read my blog before, you know that I believe that the primary reason to have a photographer at your wedding is so that you end up with  lovely wedding album.  A set of photos sitting somewhere on a disc or a computer just doesn’t cut it for me. Today I’m packing up Mollie and Ryan’s 80 page coffee table album, and it looked so wonderful, I thought I’d share a few of the spreads from inside the book.

Our single edition fine art books are 10×10 and have 80 pages. We can typically design about 100-125 images in a book like this while still keeping the design clean and uncluttered.
