I think pink is the friendliest, most accommodating color of all. Happy to blend in or stand out. And she plays nicely with almost every other color. Pink can be sweet or sexy. Soft or striking. And because of pink’s generous nature, she’s often seen in the company of others, (think pink & navy, pink & white, pink & well, almost anything.) But at this wedding, the delightful Ms. Pink was invited to center stage.

I sure do like her here. Bold, nuanced, collaborating nicely with her close friends, Magenta and Violet. She’s interesting enough to hold up to all the attention, but never showy or too in-your-face.

Maybe you’d like to invite Ms. Pink to your wedding?

Of course, these photos are ours and the gorgeous floral decor shown here is the work of the unparalleled, Geranium Lake Flowers.

I’m crazy in love with how these pale colors combine to make the softest, most sophisticated summer reception look. Lately pale colors have been a bit off trend. The vivid, vibrant palettes have been popular for the last few seasons, but I’m seeing glimpses of these softer colors returning to wedding popularity. How about Reese’s petal pink wedding look? For now the pale look is all about monochromes, but I’d bet a box of cupcakes that combinations of pales will more popular within a season or two. But, just to be stylish, let’s not call them “pastels.” We’ll be right on point if we instead rebrand these pretty colors “sheers.”

This gorgeous party design is the work of the oh-so-talented Kim Foren of Geranium Lake Flowers. Kim is among the most inspired, creative and just plain fun women in the world. Her wedding flowers and events are divine.

I’m so impressed with what Marisa’s mother was able to create on the spot for her daughter’s wedding. When we arrived on site at Pendarvis Farm, Mom was putting the finishing touches on the bridesmaids bouquets which were composed of gorgeous roses combined with little bunches of fresh baby’s breath. Marisa’s bridal bouquet skipped the frothy white flowers and was instead accented with glossy dark green foliage.

While the b-maids’ flowers were varied in color, the table flowers were each of different hue. Cute jam jars held salmon or yellow, peachy or coral. The effect was pretty, restrained and elegant.

According to the recent Wedding Report, the average cost of a wedding in 2010 was just about $24,000. From some couples, that amount might represent a down payment on a house, or 4 European vacations. While a gorgeous wedding is a wonderful thing, it’s never a good idea to start a new marriage with a wedding that’s more than your budget. If you’re a frugal bride-to-be, maybe diy flowers like these would be right for you?

If you’re interested in seeing more of Marisa and John’s handcrafted wedding at Pendarvis Farm, jump over here.

Prior to seeing this with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have guessed that royal blue would work well with orange. Not even a little bit. Nor would I have thought that royal blue would seem well-suited for as rustic a setting as Timberline Lodge. Who knew? This blue is fantastic and looks good on every girl, both tall and tiny, fair or dark. The orange is a punchy counterpoint that can hold it’s own with the bright blue. The guys boutineers were composed of a single calla lily. And in contrast to all that color, the bride’s bouquet was made of gorgeous creamy colored old fashioned roses banded with a collar of chartreuse hydrangeas. The whole thing is a striking jolt of color in an otherwise neutral, though spectacular setting. Blum was the artist responsible for these lovely floral designs.

I’ve shared before how much our clients have loved their Timberline Lodge weddings. Besides the setting, which is eye-poppingly and soul-stirringly beautiful, it’s straightforward and simple to plan a wedding at Timberline Lodge. Their event people are nice, helpful and full of creative options. And since so much is included, you won’t find your head spinning from having to sort through a million different options. Is Timberline Lodge the perfect wedding spot for you?

Have you ever seen such a gorgeous wedding reception? The decor transports me to fantasies of ballgowns, dancing and champagne. A glowing patina of gilt and shadowed turquoise is the backdrop for the blowsy peonies in shades of bright pink and yellow.

This would be a wonderful look for an intimate winter reception. I can easily imagine the Renaissance Room at the Governor Hotel transformed with a look similar to this. Or tweak the colors a bit to something like salmon, peach and deep red and picture it against the creamy white of the Heritage Ballroom.

I think the key elements to getting this look is to pile on the rich metallics as a base, and then contrast that with a delicate feature, like the peonies. Old-fashioned cabbage roses would work if peonies weren’t available. Or in early spring consider something like parrot tulips and ranuculus to get a similar delicate and fragile feeling.

Here’s an example that goes the opposite direction. For this autumn wedding at Garden Vineyards, rich, shaded complimentary colors are used in a range of tones. I think the overall effect is layered and lush. It looks as though the entire event is painted with a Old Master’s pallette: ruby rests next to clear red while navy, periwinkle and purple provide a rich nest of color. As I recall, the always-wonderful Geranium Lake Flowers was responsible for the decor at this October wedding. One of my favorite details is the leaf motif which could be found on the invitations, the program and finally that gorgeous wedding cake.

Maybe it’s the style, or the color, or the….. well, whatever it is, it’s just right. Perfect really. Kim at Geranium Lake Flowers manages to hit that mark all the time. Which is even more of a feat, considering that some of her clients are wild and some mild. Kim’s event designs are like a really awesome Pandora station. Oodles of variety, unique, and perfect for the tone of the celebration.

This was our first chance to shoot a big event at the relatively new Leftbank Annex. With a woodland theme in mind, Kim transformed the open space for a Elliot’s Bar Mitzvah celebration. Kim deftly split the space: scrumptious blue and chocolate decor on the adult side. On the other, a groovy space for youngsters complete with faux blackjack tables.

In the gallery below, you’ll find all the lovely details from this gorgeous event. I hear that Kim will appear on “The Today Show” sometime in July. Do you think she’ll remember us when she’s famous? Well done Kim!

The smart Northwest bride knows that the only sure thing about Portland’s springtime weather is that it is unpredictable. Consequently, Ashley’s plans for her wedding to Nick included all the major festivities to take place indoors. The Crown Ballroom is such a rich and luscious place, a wonderful spot to be on a breezy first day of May. Lucky for us, though, was that the afternoon cleared enough for portraits outdoors in the park blocks. Since this couple’s wedding date coincided with a May Day, we all shared a laugh when our primary portrait location was the scene of a pro-labor rally. No problem for this wedding party though, since all the park blocks are equally pretty.

All the beautiful details for this wonderful day were carefully planned by Ashley with a little help from Molli Barss at Soiree. The most memorable detail for me was Ashley’s gorgeous bridal bouquet made of vintage brooches. Besides being beyond fabulous, they suited a bride who is allergic to flowers. In fact, the florist, Lillypilly, created all kinds of lush, textured beautiful flower decor with nary blossom in sight. And in a twist on tradition, Ashley and Nick choose small individual cakes for every guest. What a sweet little treat.

Congratulations to you both, Nick and Ashley. Thank you for having us along on your sweet and lovely wedding day. Visit this link to see a selection of our wedding favorites.

The way Bravo designs the show is by assigning a florist and planner to create a theme and decor for each room. We were lucky enough to be assigned a room with Adria Sparhawk, the lovely talent behind Lavish Flora. While I had seen her work before, I hadn’t meet Adria in person, and was glad to finally do so. Our room’s theme was Vintage Spring, beautifully executed in a sweet and pretty butter yellow, red and white.

Lavish created the floral designs for Roger and Lynn’s lovely wedding last summer.
